Message “This disk is not a password reset disk”

Question: When I click on “Forgot my password” when Windows starts, the computer says, “This disk is not a password reset disk” when I put the USB in. Please help. See image below. If you see something like this see answer below…

If you get the message, “This disk is not a password reset disk” when the USB is plugged in and booted.

You SHOULD NOT be asked to insert the USB. If you see this screen, ignore it because it means you did not successfully boot from the USB.  What happened is the computer booted into Windows instead of the USB and the stock Windows password reset dialogue is popping up.  This has nothing to do with the Zapper.  The Zapper USB has it’s own operating system.  Follow these steps to successfully boot from the Zapper USB.

  1. If you see this screen hit cancel and remove the USB.
  2. Turn the power off
  3. Insert the USB into the computer.
  4. Power on the computer and enter your BIOS and make sure you select the USB as your PRIMARY boot device. You can also just go into the boot menu too when you start the computer and select the USB to boot from.
  5. When you successfully boot from the USB, you will see a picture of Earth at night. At this point, continue with the regular instructions on resetting the password.

Note: make sure the USB is the primary boot device (so the computer boots from the USB first and not the hard drive). If you don’t know how to do this there is another article in the knowledgebase on the steps needed to boot from the USB at www.jolly-shopper.com/knowledgebase.
